Alignment

Well what a morning I had on Wednesday to cap off two sleepless weeks cheering on the Aussie sailors for the London Olympics. I was lucky enough to welcome home the athletes at the airport, before heading to Middle Harbour for the sailors welcome home! Yes still catching up on sleep – but was fantastic to see everyone come home and to celebrate the most successful Australian Sailing Team, and also the most successful team of the London Olympics!
I have been saying frequently that words don’t really do the congratulations justice, but well done to Malcolm Page and Mat Belcher, Nathan Outteridge and Iain Jensen and Tommy Slingsby on their gold medals in the 470, 49er and Laser classes! So brilliant! Malcolm was the only athlete of the Aussie team to win back to back gold medals, and was the closing ceremony flag bearer. Aussie sailors almost won half of the total Australian gold.
Massive congratulations to the ONLY girls who won silver in the Elliot 6 class match racing event. If you managed to catch the final, it was so intense (I will post a link to the YouTube video when it is available!)! The best combination of three girls from our 12 person squad did us proud!
Finally, well done to all of the support team, coaches, management, sponsors and family for their support of the Aussie Sailors, who most undoubtedly do rock! It was so fantastic to see the outcome of the last four years, the hard work aligning with the outcomes that were so deserved by the entire sailing team! If you would like a recap, or want to stay up to date on the sailing world check out Adventures of a Sailor Girl.
Sailing is getting some fantastic attention at the moment and I am loving that everyone is talking about it! Aligns so perfectly with my passion, as you know, to share sailing adventures of myself and those around me! Hopefully I will be taking this to another level with a project currently on the go with some fellow “Sailing Chix” – stay tuned!
Training starts next week on the 470 for the next chapter of my sailing – Sophie Holt is officially on board to do some training leading into summer, and the Aussie circuit regattas! Very excited to be moving forward; it feels like the right time and everything has been falling into place. Hopeful that the alignment continues!
As for this weekend! On my way to the snow with Krystal Weir to get in on the action! Snowed in Canberra and the Blue Mountains today, so expecting nothing less than awesome! What a way to spend my last weekend before locking down into what could potentially align to be a four year campaign!
Aussie Sailors Rock!
