We are thrilled to announce that Australian sailing personality Nic Douglass, better known as the “Sailor Girl,” is returning for the Festival of Sails 2025! Nic, alongside her team from Adventures of a Sailor Girl, will be bringing all the action to life with live broadcasts and commentary, now for the first time ever on the big screen at the Festival’s “Screen on the Green” on the Club House Lawn.
Festival of Sails Chairman Phil Francis shared his excitement about having Nic back on board:
“We’re excited to have Nic return for another year. Her enthusiasm and passion for the sport of sailing, combined with her deep connection to the Festival of Sails, make her an invaluable part of the event. This year’s activation, with live broadcast straight into the Festival village, promises to create an even more immersive experience for sailors and spectators alike.”
For Nic, the Festival of Sails is a special event, and it’s an occasion she looks forward to each year:
“I’m very excited to be back for a third year! The Festival of Sails has always held a special place for me, from my first experience as a sailor in 2007 to the many roles I’ve played since. The festival has a unique, welcoming atmosphere both on and off the water, and I can’t wait to see everyone again. This year, the live broadcasts from ‘Screen on the Green’ will be a fantastic way to bring the action straight to the heart of the Festival village, making it more accessible to everyone who’s come to join the fun.”
Nic’s journey with the Festival of Sails started back in 2007 when she was called up to join a crew from Canberra. From there, she has been involved in various roles, including sailor, MC, host with Sir James Hardy, and ambassador. The festival’s heritage and the memories she’s made over the years continue to hold great significance for her:
“My first experience at the Festival of Sails was in 2007, and since then I’ve had the privilege of being part of the event in so many different ways. It’s an amazing regatta, rich in history, and there’s nothing quite like being involved with the oldest regatta in the Southern Hemisphere.”
This year, Nic encourages all sailors to join in the fun:
“You don’t need to be a professional sailor to be part of this historic event. The Festival of Sails is open to sailors of all levels, and it’s a fantastic weekend for everyone. Whether you’re racing or enjoying the atmosphere from the shore, it’s an event you don’t want to miss. Plus, with all the great entertainment on offer, it’s the perfect weekend for family and friends!”
The 2025 Festival of Sails promises to be another memorable edition, and we are excited to have Nic Douglass, the Sailor Girl, with us once again to make the event even more special. Don’t forget to tune in to the live broadcast on “Screen on the Green” for a front-row seat to all the action!
