Right on day two

Today we had three more races in a much lighter breeze, definitely lighter than what was forecast to be similar to yesterday. For the North American Champs more than a week ago, and so far this regatta the way to go has been left of centre. It was very much reversed today, with the right hand side providing the goods. In race one, after multiple black flag generals, over 15 boats went home early.

Ups and downs on day one

I made sure we had a Canberra Yacht Club sticker on the boat yesterday to help us with the shiftiness that is Cascade Locks. Very like Canberra, except there is current, and it is windy every day! Day one of the Worlds was definitely breezy, all done, and day two will soon be underway. Bit of a mixed bag for many of us!Speaking of bags, how cute is this!? The Japanese gave it to me as a good luck…

Practicing for the challenge

A practice is to get a feel for the conditions, to see what the start line looks like with all the boats there, to have a look at the marks, and apparently to test out your equipment as well. Practicing for the challenge ahead. Glamour photo of the Oogy’s I took out on the water today, really did capture the spirit of the Gorge. We did have some breakage today, ripping the jib halyard cleat…

That 'Worlds' feeling

The Worlds officially kicked off yesterday with a day of measurement, with the practice race and welcome function on today. It has been a fantastic week, and has definitely felt like a Worlds since about Tuesday when we had eight plus boats out training seriously. The atmosphere, location and sailing is quite simply pretty awesome! We sailed the Friday before the North American Champs, the two…

Not just any Monday

What a Monday it was yesterday. We finally got to see the Gorge in full swing in a great training session with the Aussies that are already over here (or not off travelling!). Today, Tuesday there is more expected of the same. 18 knots plus, sunshine and of course for me, sailing. The North American Champs finished up on Sunday, a very tricky series. As the locals often say, it is not usually…

The Gorge

We have made it to gorgeous Cascade Locks, the destination of the 2013 Tasar Worlds. The club is about 30 minutes drive from Portland, the capital of Oregon, which is north of California, and south of Washington state on the West coast of the USA… surrounded by mountains on both sides… it really does just take your breath away! We managed to get on the water for the first time…

Countdown

It is now less than four daysuntil I fly to the USA for the Tasar Worlds at Cascade Locks. The planning has been going well, training even better – and it is hard to believe that in a month the regatta will already be over! I have had another weekend at the South Coast, where it was pretty much too windy to sail, but we went out anyway. Made for some fantastic photos. Below is a shot…

"Adventures" of a Sailor Girl

Today marks four weeks until I will be on a plane heading to the USA for the Tasar Worlds in Cascade Locks, Oregon. Can’t wait for the adventure! After a weekend off sailing last week, this weekend we had one day theory (thanks to torrential rain and zip all wind), and two on water sessions on Sunday… learning so much + great team=fantastic 🙂 For more on what I have been…

Flying high

What a month… I don’t think you would believe me if I told you about the amount of sailing, and the new adventures. Really enjoying saying yes to sailing quite a few boats I have not had time to sail in recent years. Mind you, saying yes has meant some days I have been on the water for multiple sessions to keep up the Tasar training, but also get out on…….. a Moth&#8230…

Adventures for the soul

The past few months have involved a lot of reflection… on adventures past, and those that I want to experience going forward. Many who know me call me Girly. I have been “The Sailor Girl” for more than ten years, enjoying all that this awesome sport has to offer, on a variety of boats, in so many locations, at many different levels, meeting some fantastic people, and of course…
