The PONANT Sydney Noumea Yacht Race start

The start of the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia’s 1064 nautical mile PONANT Sydney Noumea Race kicked off at 1000 AEST on 3 June 2018.
I caught up with three skippers, Tony Kirby (Patrice, current line honours and IRC leaders), Seb Bohm (Smuggler), Shane Kearns (Komatsu Azzurro) and the RO Denis Thomson before they departed the CYCA, and then was live for the start itself.
It was wet, windy and lumpy, but the tight racing under a series of rainbows over the Sydney Harbour backdrop made it all worth it! My live broadcasting studio was captured perfectly by Aquareve’s James Whelan in the featured image.
Check out the adventures for yourself below or head to http://noumea.cyca.com.au to continue following the PONANT Sydney Noumea Yacht Race.
