Darwin here we come!

A lot can change in a week! I ended up having microsurgery on my hand last Sunday to repair two cut digital nerves and a cut flexor tendon in my left hand. Not bad for a mornings work… So far, so good with the recovery. Thanks to all who crossed their fingers for me! Stitches are still in, while not ideal, racing does not start for a week yet, so I am hopeful I will be ready… just! We may have to swap around a bit depending on the wind strength. The cut is quite large and across my palm so holding ropes is difficult (especially at the moment as I can’t make a fist!). I am able to hold onto the stick which is great news! So, I won’t be 100%, but hopefully will be well enough to do the Master, Rob Douglass, proud!
Darwin is a very special place for us, as it is where we won our first Nationals, and also our first Worlds in 2005 over 130 other boats. Now we will be doing the regatta reversed, a rarity in our sport; I couldn’t attempt my first Tasar Nationals on the helm anywhere else! A massive thanks to Rob “Master Crew” for his time and patience over the winter. One could not ask for a better on-board coach.
I have made a little video over the past few days while not training. I did get to go for a sneaky float off Ulladulla yesterday, and almost regretted it due to the pain, apart from it being such a perfect day! Thanks Hugh and Soph for making the trip down, and for previewing the video! Re-lives many memories, and shows the developments in Douglass Tasar sailing with footage from 2004 to present. Quite a few bloopers, so enjoy! We have been sailing the boats for 15 years now, and we are still finding new ways to challenge ourselves, I guess swapping was only inevitable! I will try to keep you posted on our progress at least once over the regatta, keep tabs as always via Facebook or Twitter if you want more frequent updates! Results will be available via www.tasar.com.au
Finally it is time for the “Apprentice” and Master to head north yet again! Darwin here we come!
