50th Rolex Fastnet Race

Just a glimpse of the crowds that watch the spectacle of the Rolex Fastnet Race start in front of the Royal Yacht Squadron – Carlo Borlenghi / Rolex

Get ready for the epic 50th Rolex Fastnet Race as we approach the 100th year of this extraordinary sailing spectacle.

I’m in LA, ready to soak up the sun and the SailGP action that kicks off today, Saturday 1600 local time. But in the UK, the 50th Rolex Fastnet Race is also starting today, from 1250 local time (BST), , with some seriously windy conditions forecast. It’s a double dose of sailing excitement! Good luck, stay safe and send it to all of the 450+ boats!

On Fastnet Eve, yesterday, I took every opportunity in between work to catch up with one of my favourite US teams, specifically with Richard Clarke sailing on Warrior Won (from start), a UK skipper who happens to be female – Susan Glenny of Olympia’s Tigress (from 8:17), and true blue Aussie, owner and skipper of one of the smallest and oldest boats in the fleet, Sean Langman racing Maluka (from 16:44).
