Nic Douglass – better known as the Sailor Girl – is a three-time World Champion sailor, media personality, and passionate promoter of the sport of sailing. Through her platform SailorGirlHQ, she shares stories from the water, connects the global sailing community, and showcases the people, places, and events that make our sport so unique.
Sailing Career & Achievements
- Three-time World Champion in the Tasar class (an open class)
- Two Grade One gold medals in Women’s Match Racing (Olympic-level class) ahead of the 2012 Olympics
- Former member of the Australian Sailing Development Squad leading into London
- Over ten Australian National Championships across fleet and match racing

Nic is not only an accomplished sailor but also a skilled communicator and storyteller. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communication (Public Communication) from the University of Technology Sydney, along with postgraduate qualifications in Marketing and Psychology.
Her career spans public relations, broadcasting, and strategic communications, working with brands and organisations across the marine industry, sport, media, and beyond.
As a presenter, commentator, and event host, Nic has covered high-profile regattas around the world, providing live commentary, interviews, and behind-the-scenes access for sailors and fans alike.
Through SailorGirlHQ, a brand of Sunset Media, Nic produces multi-platform sailing content:
